Josephine was asked to direct the students of Sandwich Technology School in Kent in a production of Les Miserables School Edition. The vast majority of the cast, in particular the boys, had never sung, or even performed on stage before. The piece received such huge acclaim that it transferred to The Gulbenkian Theatre in Canterbury in July ’10. Brenda Blethyn was among those who saw this extraordinary production and said: ‘It was spectacular, and exceptional by any standard’. To mount the show again in an inner-city area, drawing her cast from the young people in the many projects which exist in big cities.
